Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
