The loved ones of teenagers unaccounted for after a tragic blaze at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and pleading for any details about their children online.

The inferno devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed images show the ceiling being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the disaster, which killed numerous partygoers and wounded another 119. A spokesperson noted on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with the process still underway to name the remaining few.
