Fans Call for Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who leaped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the individual from Australia pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was due to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account features videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another comment on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
