Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were suspended because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are managed.
