Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
