Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
