Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic £11m in prize money.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus after the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
